Madhushree is an Indian playback singer who hails from West Bengal. She has the ability to croon in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language. She has been a familiar voice in the music maestro A.R. Rahman's most of the compositions ever since she sang in 2001 for the flick Yuva.

Early Life

Madhushree was born as Sujata Bhattacharya in the capital of West Bengal state, Kolkata in a hardcore Bengali Brahmin family to Amarendranath and Parbati Bhattacharya who were her first music teachers. Like most of the Bengali children, she was also to get a formal music teaching. But since she has a fascination for music she was trained under Sangeetacharya Pt. Amiya Ranjan Bandhopadhyaya who was a noted expert of Bishnupur Gharana and excelled in Thumri and Khyal forms of classical music.

Gradually, Madhushree started working for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and through which she was deputed to teach classical music for Surinam.

Career

After returning to India, she met famous playback singer Kumar Sanu in Kolkata. She made her bollywood debut with a song in the music composer Rajesh Roshan's Moksha on his recommendation.

She has since then has gone on to sing for numerous movies like Yuva, Aayitha Ezuthu, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Anbe Aruyire and Kuch Naa Kaho. Her most recent albums include A.R. Rahman's Rang De Basanti and Guru. Srikanth Deva's Alwar, Yuvan Shankar Raja's Deepavali and Sarvam and Harris Jayraj's Unnale Unnale. Her song Vaji Vaji from the movie, Sivaji- The Boss was well received.

She sung 3 songs as Sujata Bhattacharya for A.R. Rahman's Tehzeeb but the songs did not become popular but the critics still consider them as the best songs sung by her ever.

However, she is known for her hit number from Yuva, Kabhi Neem Neem Kabhi Shahad Shahad. Being a Bengali, she sang for most of the noted south Indian composers. After her voice became an instant hit under the discography of A.R. Rahman, she learned Tamil on her own to be not restricted to just one language due to the language barrier.

Personal Life

Sujata Bhattacharya alias Madhushree is happily married to engineer and music director, Robby Badal, she would soon be seen singing for Karthik Raja's Mukhbir.
